Credits & sources
Images
One Work shows only works that are in the public domain. Almost every image comes from a museum's open-access programme, released under Creative Commons Zero (CC0), with no rights reserved. Thank you to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Rijksmuseum, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum for sharing their collections so generously.
Three images come from Wikimedia Commons instead of a museum's open-access programme: two scans made for Google Arts & Culture, and one photograph taken by a gallery visitor. Each is marked public domain on Commons and is labelled below.

Text
Every essay, fact and quiz question is written for One Work and draws on museum collection records, curatorial essays and published scholarship. The sources for each work are listed at the end of its page. If you spot an error, please tell us.
